Well it was a funny one last night. Arrived with a mate at 9pm which was about low water with the sea being pretty flat and set up about 20 yards from the end. Didn't expect much to start with so I loaded up with mackeral on a 1/0 2 hook clipped down rig and a whole squid on a pennel on the other rod.
Within minutes the rod with the mackeral on had thumped round and then stopped - it was a massive bite. Seconds later it went again, only to strike straight in to a snag. Lost the fish and rig - gutted.
Next cast I baited a neew rig up with mackeral and had a double shot of decent whiting nearly straight away. Things were looking good as my mate then puled a decent whiting in.
Things then went downhill. Rather than the fishing getting better as the tide was well into the flood it died, despite a half decent swell developing. High tide came and nobody was catching. The odd twitch of the rod tip brought some hope but the crabs came out in force and were stripping everything.
Enjoyable session but a bit dissapointing. Surprised that low water was so promising!
